One of the biggest misconceptions is whether you should wear sunscreen if you’re Black. To my fellow brown-skin people, please fight against the sunscreen myths we grew up with. Just because we have melanin doesn’t mean we don’t need sunscreen to protect our skin against sun damage and skin cancer.
Finding a brown-skin-friendly sunscreen, especially if you have sensitive skin or a skin condition like eczema, can be somewhat challenging, but there are quite a few options out there. So, today I’m sharing my current sunscreen favorites. They’re all fragrance-free, rub in easily, don’t irritate my eyes, and don’t leave a white cast.
Here are the best sunscreens for black skin.
The Best Sunscreens For Sensitive, Black Skin
AbsoluteJOI Skincare Tinted Moisturizer With SPF 40 Mineral Sunscreen
The best sunscreens for black skin are fragrance-free, easy to apply, and don’t leave a white cast. Because of these reasons, I usually opt for chemical sunscreen.
The AbsoluteJOI Skincare Tinted Moisturizer With SPF 40 Mineral Sunscreen has given me a little hope regarding mineral sunscreens. It’s on the list of the best sunscreens for black skin because it checks all the boxes for me and blends in pretty well. Check out me applying it here.

Black Girl Sunscreen Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30
I love wearing Black Girl Sunscreen on my body. This black-owned sunscreen is one of the best sunscreens for black skin because it’s easy to rub in, extremely moisturizing, and doesn’t leave an ashy cast, all for under $20 a bottle. Due to its moisturizing properties, I wouldn’t recommend anyone with oily skin to use it on their face.
Dr. Barbara Sturm Sun Drops SPF 50
This sunscreen is pricey, but I love the serum-like consistency and how easy it rubs into my skin without leaving a white cast. Dr. Barbara Sturm Sun Drops SPF 50 also contains green tea leaf extract to protect my skin from the damaging effect of free radicals.
Eucerin Sun Age Defense SPF 50
The Eucerin Sun Age Defense SPF 50 is a great affordable sunscreen that leaves my skin moisturized and dewy without being heavy. This sunscreen made it on the list of best sunscreens for black skin because it’s effortless to rub in and gives me a little glow. I love how the pump dispenses as well.
Eucerin Advanced Hydration SPF 50 Sunscreen Spray
I’m really lazy when it comes to body sunscreen. I just want to use what’s quick and easy. The Eucerin Advanced Hydration SPF 50 Sunscreen Spray leaves a nice glistening on the skin and makes it easy for me to apply sunscreen on my body.
La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Facial Moisturizer with Sunscreen SPF 30
The La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Facial Moisturizer with Sunscreen SPF 30 is one of my go-to drugstore face sunscreens. It checks all the boxes of a brown-skin-friendly sunscreen: it’s easy to rub in, doesn’t leave a white cast, and leaves no irritation. It’s also pretty moisturizing.
