A 5-Step Body Skin Care Routine For Glowing Skin

Estimated reading time: 7 minutes

When it comes to skincare, we often tend to overlook our bodies and focus solely on our faces. However, it’s crucial to remember that our body deserves just as much attention, especially if we have specific skincare conditions like eczema – just like me.

Whether you’re dealing with dry, flaky skin caused by winter weather or experiencing breakouts on your back due to vigorous workouts or the scorching summer heat, a well-rounded body skincare routine is essential. Not only does it help to replenish moisture in your skin, but it also forms a protective barrier to lock in hydration.

So, let’s dive into the ultimate body care routine that caters to all skin conditions, leaving your skin irresistibly soft, radiant, and thoroughly nourished.

The 5-Step Body Skin Care Routine Steps For Soft, Glowy, Hydrated Skin

Achieve irresistibly soft, radiant, and hydrated skin by incorporating the following steps into your daily routine:

I personally view my body care routine as a luxurious self care ritual. It’s an opportunity to pamper myself with products that bring me joy while setting aside dedicated time to prioritize my well-being.

Step 1: Incorporate Exfoliation Into Your Body Care Routine

Including exfoliation in your body care routine is absolutely essential for achieving smooth and supple skin. Personally, I rely on two trusty tools for exfoliating my body: exfoliating gloves and a dry brush.

In the shower, I’m completely infatuated with my exfoliating gloves. I’ve been using them since I was a teenager. They effectively slough off dead skin cells, leaving my body feeling refreshed and silky, all without being overly abrasive. Additionally, I’ve found that incorporating an exfoliating body scrubber into my routine has been particularly beneficial for reaching and cleansing those challenging areas, like my entire back.

Another fantastic method I’ve discovered is dry brushing. This technique not only enhances circulation but also gently eliminates dead skin cells. It has become a cherished weekly ritual for me, typically done before I shower.

Now, I’m sure you’re wondering whether these exfoliating tools are suitable for sensitive skin. The answer is a resounding yes! The crucial aspect is to exercise moderation and avoid using products that may prove too harsh for your skin. Remember, maintaining a healthy skin barrier is of utmost importance. And please refrain from dry brushing over eczema flare-ups, rashes, wounds, sunburns, or any irritated areas.

Here are a few exfoliating tools I recommend incorporating into your body care routine:

Step 2: Incorporate Moisturizing Body Washes

While many people pay attention to the products they use after a shower, it’s equally important to consider what to use during their shower or bath. That’s why opting for a hydrating and moisturizing body wash is essential instead of solely focusing on post-shower treatments. When cleansing, aim for warm showers rather than overly hot ones to prevent excessive moisture loss.

When it comes to my own skincare journey, I often struggle with dry skin and frequently experience eczema flare-ups on my body. Incorporating a rotation of nourishing cleansing products has made a remarkable difference in managing these concerns.

If you’re facing dry skin challenges as well, I highly recommend trying out the following body washes: (Keep an eye out for the asterisks denoting those I specifically recommend for eczema-prone skin.)

Step 3: Apply Hydrators & Moisturizers: Body Serums, Lotions, Creams, and Butters

Once you step out of the shower, leave your skin slightly damp before applying your chosen body serum, lotion, cream, or butter. The timing of when you hydrate and moisturize is crucial because you want to lock in moisture while your skin is still moist.

Now, the question arises: What type of moisturizer should you use? It depends on your skin’s needs. Is your skin on the drier side, in need of intense hydration with patches of dryness? Or are you more focused on prevention? Answering these questions can help guide your selection of a suitable body moisturizer.

  • Lotions typically contain a higher water content, resulting in a thinner consistency that absorbs quickly.
  • Body creams usually consist of equal parts water and oil, providing a richer and more emollient formula compared to lotions.
  • Body butters, the thickest option among the three, contain predominantly plant-based oils. They work wonders for drier skin, especially for areas like flaky elbows and knees.

Here are a few nourishing body SERUMS, lotions, creams, and butters to consider:

Step 4: Enhance Your Body Skin Care Routine with Body Oil

As part of my nighttime body skincare routine, I find it beneficial to incorporate a body oil after applying lotion. Body oils offer exceptional nourishment to the skin, effectively sealing in moisture. Their richness in essential fatty acids makes them ideal for combating dehydration and dryness. Additionally, body oils create a protective barrier against environmental stressors, promoting luminosity and overall skin health.

Personally, I prefer using body oils as a nighttime treatment. By incorporating them into my evening body care routine, I can generously apply the oil all over my body, allowing it to absorb without concerns about it transferring onto my clothes.

If you’re seeking body oils for a radiant complexion, consider the following options:

Step 5: Treat Specific Areas with Balms

Balms prove to be incredibly effective for treating damaged skin in areas such as cracked hands, heels, and elbows. Their concentrated formula and denser consistency make them ideal for providing targeted care. Personally, I also find balms to be beneficial for soothing eczema patches.

If you’re experiencing dryness on your feet, I recommend massaging them with a body balm and then slipping on a pair of cozy socks. This simple step will have your feet looking sandal-ready in no time!

Wellness Tips For Your Body Care Routine

While the previous tips primarily focus on skincare products, it’s important to incorporate additional practices into your body care routine for overall wellness.

Here are a couple of suggestions that don’t involve skincare products:

  1. A valuable addition to your body care routine is investing in a quality humidifier. Not only do humidifiers add moisture to the air to prevent dry skin, but they also help mitigate sinus issues, sore throats, and alleviate symptoms of cold and flu. There are many options on the market, but the one I love is the Carepod Humidifier. Get 10% your Carepod Humidifier using my code BEAUTYINCOLOR.
  2. In addition to skincare, staying well-hydrated plays a crucial role in preventing dry skin. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water throughout the day. If you struggle to meet your water intake goals, incorporating hydrating foods into your diet and enjoying herbal tea can help diversify your hydration routine and break the monotony of plain water.

Bottomline

And there you have it – my tried-and-true body care routine for preventing and treating dry skin. By following these steps, you can nourish and moisturize your body, promoting a healthy and hydrated complexion.

Remember, it’s important to listen to your skin’s needs and make adjustments accordingly. Every individual’s skin is unique, so feel free to customize the routine by incorporating products that work best for you.

I truly hope you found these tips and recommendations helpful in your body care journey. Remember, consistency and self-care are key when it comes to taking care of your skin. Here’s to healthy, radiant, and moisturized skin all year round!

Wow this is amazing! Thank you for this post. I have eczema and this summer my skin freaked I couldn’t wash with anything exfoliating I could only use dove unscented bar soap and my hands. My skin is doing better now thankfully and I will hopefully be incorporating some of the things you’ve mentioned! The mindfulness tip is also highly important. Appreciate you!
