What’s Your Skin Type? – A Cheat Sheet

If you’re starting your skincare journey, I have a great blog post to help you build a skincare routine.

But, before you start buying products, it’s essential to first understand your skin type. This will help you buy formulas that are well suited for you so you can confidently build an effective routine.

Before we talk about the various skin types, I do want to preface this by saying skin types are not set in stone. The climate you live in, the season, and even your age can affect how your skin behaves. So, know that you’ll need to re-evaluate how your skin feels and make adjustments as needed. I, personally, do this every season.

Every person’s skin is unique, but there are a few common skin types that can help you to identify where your skin fits in the most. The five main skin types are normal, dry, oily, combination, and sensitive.

HOW TO DETERMINE YOUR SKIN TYPE

Here’s an easy way to determine your skin type at home:

  1. Wash your face and wait a few hours (do not put on any products during this time).
  2. Consult the chart below for characteristics of each skin type to determine which one you fall under.

Got your skin type figured out now? Great! Now, you’re ready to build a basic skincare routine.
